|---|---|---|---|---|
| I: Multiple choice | 60 | 80 minutes | 70% | 41 single questions and 7 sets of 2–3 questions that share a stimulus (19 questions): device readings, ipconfig and ping output, firewall rules, routing tables, tracert, IDS logs, network documentation, and AI-generated designs |
| II: Free response | 1 (5 parts, 11 points) | 50 minutes | 30% | One network, several sources (documentation, configuration, logs, and a policy). You explain policy, find evidence of attacks or faults, write configurations, and recommend improvements. |
Coverage: Unit 1: 10 questions · Unit 2: 15 · Unit 3: 18 · Unit 4: 17. Every question is tagged with its learning objective and course skill, and the score report points you to the lesson to review in the book.
About this format
The College Board has said that the AP Networking Exam is digital and has a multiple-choice section and a free-response section that uses real networking artifacts and evidence. It has not yet published the number of questions, timing, or weighting. Until it does, this exam copies the published format of AP Cybersecurity, its sister AP Career Kickstart course: 60 multiple-choice questions in 80 minutes (70%), including sets of 2–4 questions that share a stimulus, plus 1 multi-source free-response question in 50 minutes (30%). Units are weighted by the class time the course text gives them. When the College Board publishes the AP Networking format, this exam will be updated to match. See Updates. Before you start
- Have scratch paper ready. Calculators are not needed: subnetting and hexadecimal questions are written to be done by hand.
- Your answers are saved in this browser as you go, so you can close the tab and resume later on the same device.
- The timer counts down for each section separately. When time runs out, the section is submitted automatically.
- After Section II, you score your own free response against the scoring guidelines and a sample response.
